ABOUT THIS WEBSITE AND ABOUT PHOTONOMY

Photography is a way of engaging visually with the world, “active seeing” and a way of reacting to it and expressing love for the natural world.

Taking camera gear into wild places, or near to animals, birds and plant life, or into the world of humanity and its creations, is a way of expressing a sense of wonder.

Photonomy is a website whose main purpose is to share this experience with others, whether they be photographers or not; it showcases the images of Philip Wilson, as well as providing links to the work of other photographers. It aims to be a forum for discussion and ideas.

Buying prints or licenses

Although the main purpose of the site is to showcase images for everyone to look at freely, it may be that you would like to purchase a print of an image you find on the site. Please contact me through the contact page if you would like to discuss pricing; I aim to keep prices as low as possible to encourage the printing of quality images to enhance a living or work space - too many images remain on a computer screen. As a rough guide, an A4 image on one of a range of professional papers would cost around £80. Images of various sizes can be purchased to order. Please also reach out if you would like to license an image, and I am also sometimes open to my images being used with just an acknowledgement/link, depending on the reason for wishing to use the image: do please send me a message.

ABOUT PHILIP WILSON

I am in the happy position of being able to spend a lot more time since the summer of 2021 photographing the natural world from my base in Newcastle Emlyn, West Wales. Most of all I love to go out exploring and now have a small Vauxhall Vivaro campervan conversion which enables me to travel easily with my gear and explore new places easily. My first major trip with the van was at end of April 2022, when I spent three weeks in the Hebrides and North West Scotland. I have made a couple of shorter trips since then to areas nearer my home: mid-Wales and Pembrokeshire, and have a number of other plans in the pipeline. But really I can now go off pretty much whenever the spirit calls.

My working life has been connected to a different branch of the artistic world: music and music education. Through the piano and music I express my creativity. My educational work, heavily involved with many people in often intense situations, has been the antithesis of my photographic life, with its solitude and calm introspection. I regard them as opposite and complementary aspects of a full life, which I am fortunate to lead. Below are two videos showing some of my recent work in music and music education.

I also spend time on genealogy. I have over 5000 individuals in my family tree, which goes back over 1000 years; the pleasure for me is to sense the interconnectedness of all of us. Please visit my family history website www.whobegatwhom.co.uk

Philip Wilson conducts a composition by his student Max Manning - Slow Dance in A minor for string orchestra. Christ's School Fourth Biennial Choral and Orchestral Concert, Richmond, Surrey, UK. This video highlights the work I have done encouraging creativity in young musicians, which is an often-neglected field in musical education. Do please get in touch if you would like to find out more or hear more of the student composition performances which I have had the privilege to enable.
